Tahoe Avalanche Kills 8 and Becomes Fourth Deadliest in US

Rescue teams recovered the bodies of eight skiers following a massive avalanche in the Castle Peak area near Lake Tahoe, while a ninth person remains missing and is presumed dead.This tragedy is now the fourth deadliest avalanche in US history, occurring after the Sierra Avalanche Center reported more than 50 slides in the region since late 2025.Chris Feutrier and Nathalie Vriend explained that the disaster resulted from a persistent weak layer of ice buried under a large load of fresh snow.
