The
USA Mint officially ceased producing the one-cent coin, or penny, after 232 years as part of a phase-out effort directed by
Donald Trump.
The Treasury cited the production cost exceeding three cents per coin and the penny's lost practical value amid inflation and digital transactions as reasons for discontinuation.
