Louvre staff launched a renewable strike after roughly 400 workers voted unanimously to cease operations, and the museum has remained closed with employees gathered outside the glass pyramid carrying placards and banners.Unions CFDT, CGT and Sud say the institution is "in crisis" because of staffing shortages, security lapses, aging infrastructure and deteriorating working conditions, and they demand immediate measures including canceling a planned ticket-price increase for visitors from outside the European Economic Area from €22 to €32, creation of 200 security posts and written, enforceable commitments on hires and funding. The strike follows a spectacular daylight heist in which thieves used a freight elevator to steal pieces of France's crown jewels, four suspects were arrested but the items remain missing, and senators are holding hearings while the Culture Ministry has tasked Philippe Jost to propose a deep reorganization of the Louvre.
