During the UN
COP30 Climate Conference, a significant fire erupted near Italy's pavilion in the
Blue Zone, rapidly spreading to other pavilions including China and the
Eastern African Community.
Emergency responders contained the blaze within six minutes, treating thirteen people for smoke inhalation and trauma with no serious injuries or deaths. The summit faced controversy as the draft agreement removed references to fossil fuels despite opposition from major producing nations, with a coalition of 36 countries opposing the draft for lacking a phase-out roadmap, while COP30 President André Corrêa do Lago urged unity and urgent climate action.
