Aid Groups Warn of Worsening Crisis as Israel Bans Gaza Operations
Israel ordered multiple humanitarian organizations to cease operations in Gaza immediately after announcing a ban on thirty-seven aid groups. The directive targets Doctors Without Borders and Oxfam following new requirements for staff to disclose personal information and financial records. Ravina Shamdasani and Claire San Filippo warned the move endangers hundreds of thousands of people who rely on international healthcare and winter aid.The decision follows allegations that some aid workers have ties to militant groups, though organizations have called the new regulations capricious and dangerous. Israeli authorities had originally set a March deadline but moved to accelerate the suspension of activities for the affected international groups.Bushra Khalidi noted that the loss of support comes as flooding and freezing temperatures worsen the humanitarian crisis for those living in tent camps.
