Donald Trump Widens UN Pullback With New Exit Order

The Trump administration announced Wednesday it will withdraw the USA from dozens of international organizations, after Donald Trump signed an order directing agencies to stop participating in and funding 66 bodies deemed “wasteful, ineffective, or harmful.”Officials said the move affects 31 UN-linked entities including the U.N. Population Fund and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, while the White House said it will withhold support from groups that “operate contrary to U.S. national interests, security, economic prosperity, or sovereignty.”The UN expressed regret and warned unpaid assessed dues could cost the USA its General Assembly vote, as Marco Rubio defended the shift and critics said the cuts would hit vulnerable populations and undermine climate and humanitarian efforts.
