The Berlin Senate has approved an investment of approximately €13.8 billion in climate protection initiatives through state-owned companies by 2030 as part of the Climate Pact 2025-2030, announced by Governing Mayor Kai Wegner (CDU). Finance Senator Stefan Evers and Economic Senator Franziska Giffey highlighted that funds will target climate-neutral district heating, electricity grid improvements, and that Berliner Energie und Wärme (BEW) plays a key role. Opposition parties criticized the federal special fund allocation of €5.2 billion over 12 years, demanding clearer strategies and expressing concerns about repayment of the "special debt."
