Patrick Gary Schlegel remains in stable condition after being shot by Border Patrol agents during a confrontation near the USA-Mexico border on Tuesday.The 34-year-old allegedly opened fire on a federal helicopter and ground agents during a pursuit following an attempted traffic stop near Arivaca, Arizona.Schlegel, who was a fugitive following a 2024 escape from a smuggling conviction, faces federal charges including assault on an officer and human smuggling.
