Italian citizens face an estimated 900 million euros in additional costs as the government led by Giorgia Meloni implements new budget regulations starting January 1, 2026.The measures include higher diesel excise duties, increased tobacco prices, and a significant jump in car insurance taxes from 2.5 percent to 12.5 percent.Municipalities are also authorized to raise tourist taxes and apply a new fee on low-value shipping packages arriving from non-EU countries.
