Delphine Ziegler said she will spend a special and warm Christmas after Frédéric Péchier was sentenced to life imprisonment for poisoning 30 patients, including 12 fatal cases, following a long probe and trial. The sentence includes immediate incarceration, a 22-year minimum security period and a permanent ban on practising medicine, and relatives greeted the verdict with relief outside the Besançon courthouse.Investigators opened a probe in 2017 after tests found abnormally high potassium in an intravenous bag and prosecutors said Péchier contaminated IV bags with potassium and other drugs so he could appear to save patients; Péchier denies the charges and his lawyer
Ornella Spatafora said he will appeal.
