Donald Trump and Education Secretary
Linda McMahon announced plans to transfer various educational programs from the
Department of Education to other federal agencies.
The Department of Labor will handle K-12 programs, the Department of the Interior will oversee Indian education, and other programs will move to the Departments of Health and Human Services and State. Critics, including Democratic leaders and some Republicans, have raised concerns about increased bureaucracy and disruptions, while the Education Department retains its large student loan portfolio.
