Texas has requested an emergency order from the US Supreme Court to permit the use of its newly drawn congressional redistricting map for the 2026 elections, a map heavily favored by Republicans and championed by former
Donald Trump.
The Supreme Court, with Justice Samuel Alito signing an order temporarily blocking a lower court ruling against the map, is deciding whether it can be used in the upcoming midterm elections while similar Republican-favored maps face legal challenges nationwide. Political strategist Nate Cohn observed that without the new Texas map, Democrats could gain a 0.6% advantage in the national House popular vote, potentially flipping the House.
