6 Injured After Cable Car Crashes Into Wall in Italian Alps
Emergency teams evacuated 100 stranded tourists after a cable car crash at the Monte Moro ski resort injured six people. A cabin traveling to the mountain station at 2,850 meters failed to slow down, striking a barrier and impacting another vehicle moving toward the valley. Facility administrator Filippo Besozzi stated the system recently underwent maintenance while investigators began technical checks to determine the cause of the failure. The injured victims, including a child and the vehicle driver, were treated for non-life-threatening injuries following the high-altitude impact. Specialized rescue units used helicopters to transport passengers to safety after the mechanical failure paralyzed the transport system near the summit. Local authorities and technical experts are currently examining the braking mechanism to understand why the automatic deceleration failed to engage properly. The ski resort facility had recently benefited from a two-million-euro renovation project before the accident occurred during routine operations. Although the station structure suffered only minor damage, Besozzi confirmed the site will remain closed until comprehensive safety inspections are completed. Passengers remained trapped at high altitude for several hours before the coordinated rescue effort successfully brought everyone down from the mountain.
