Gabriel Boric Declares State of Catastrophe as Chile Wildfires Kill 18

Gabriel Boric declared a state of catastrophe after wildfires killed at least 18 people and forced 50,000 residents to evacuate central and southern Chile.The blazes have destroyed hundreds of homes and scorched 18,000 hectares across the Biobio and Nuble regions during a record heatwave.Emergency teams and the military are currently battling more than 20 active fires as temperatures exceed 38 degrees Celsius.
