Donald Trump announced he is immediately terminating Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Somali migrants living in Minnesota, the largest Somali community in the
USA.
The decision follows reports that millions of dollars in Minnesota welfare funds were diverted by members of the Somali community to the Al-Shabaab terrorist group through clan-based money traders and informal hawala networks. The Minnesota chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations criticized the move, stating that ending TPS will separate families and is driven by Islamophobic rhetoric.
