UN Women and the UN Office on Drugs and Crime reported that about 50,000 women and girls worldwide were murdered by intimate partners or family members, drawing attention to persistent dangers in the home.
The report noted 137 women murdered each day and highlighted that 60 percent of female victims were killed by people they knew, compared to 11 percent of male victims. Germany's Family Minister Karin Prien called the statistics dramatic, with Germany recording a peak in domestic violence cases and over 70% of victims being women.
