Chinese manufacturer BYD officially surpassed Tesla as the top global producer of electric vehicles after reporting record sales of 2.26 million battery-powered cars in 2025.The shift follows a difficult period for Elon Musk, whose political activities and support for Donald Trump reportedly cost Tesla up to 1.26 million potential vehicle sales.Despite new EU tariffs on Chinese imports, BYD maintained its lead in European markets by offering significantly lower prices than the entry-level models produced by Tesla.
