The government removed major pension provisions from its 2026 budget amendment after a nighttime dispute with the right-wing Lega, following an earlier overnight showdown that forced Giancarlo Giorgetti to back down and saw Federico Freni reiterate support for the measures before they were withdrawn.A new amendment filed in the Senate Budget Committee strips all pension rules and keeps only measures to rework the PNRR and the iperammortamento tax incentive, and the revised text accelerates a corporate withholding rate to 0.5 percent in 2028 and 1 percent from 2029.Luca Ciriani said the majority decided to remove most pension and early-retirement rules from the amendment and to move them into a separate
decree-law to be examined at one of the next two cabinets, while lawmakers warned the move will delay consideration and require new funding.
