William Lai Ching-te defended record purchases of USA armaments during his New Year speech to transform Taiwan into a porcupine capable of resisting China.The move follows a Pentagon report warning that Xi Jinping aims to be military ready for an invasion by 2027 while Donald Trump approves an 11 billion dollar weapons supply.Analysts Marian Tupy and Doug Bandow suggest the USA should also create a Freedom Visa program to provide an immigration pressure valve for Taiwanese citizens.
