Coroner Rules Death of Beekeeper Alan Ransom a Misadventure
A coroner ruled the death of Alan Ransom a misadventure after the hobbyist beekeeper was fatally stung while not wearing protective gear. Ransom passed away in May 2024 from anaphylactic shock following a bee sting to his left ear while inspecting hives on the Isle of Wight. The 55-year-old civil engineer was well known locally for his YouTube channel where he documented his experiences with beekeeping.Ransom had been keeping bees for approximately six years and managed several hives that produced about 40lb of honey annually. His family and friends raised more than £1,500 for Cancer Research UK in his memory following the tragic incident.Symptoms of anaphylaxis can develop rapidly and include throat swelling and difficulty breathing after exposure to triggers like insect stings.
