Celine Cremer, a 31-year-old Belgian tourist who has been missing since June 2023 while hiking near the Philosopher Falls trail in Tasmania, had a mobile phone recovered over the recent weekend in scrubland close to the area where she was last seen, prompting Tasmanian Police to join a private search organised by her friends and family and to begin new forensic testing of the device.Andrew Hanson of Tasmanian Police said that phone data and the location of the find support a theory that Cremer may have left the main trail as daylight faded and taken a shorter route back to her car, possibly dropping the phone and becoming disoriented in dense terrain, and authorities cautioned that winter weather at the time would have severely reduced chances of survival while searches and forensic work continue.
